Bei Ralf wäre es vermutlich ein Whisky – ein rauchiger Lagavulin, ein fruchtig-würziger Glenmorangie oder ein ausgewogener Oban. Bei mir sind es die große neue Scottish-Clans-Tasse mit heißer Galaxy-Schokolade und ein paar Bourbon Creams, die mir helfen, in Erinnerungen an den kürzlich zu Ende gegangenen Schottland-Urlaub zu schwelgen.
Was wir beide nach unserer Rückkehr nun arg vermissen, ist das prasselnde Feuer im Kamin unseres Cottages am Ende eines ereignisreichen Tages in den Highlands. Erst weht einem beim Wandern der raue Wind um die Nase, dann kocht das Essen auf dem wunderbaren Aga und zum Schluss locken Buch und Spiel am wärmenden Feuer… Ich will sofort zurück!
Wir haben viel gesehen, aber längst nicht alles, und natürlich jede Menge Fotos geschossen. Als überaus hilfreich bei der Auswahl der Tagesunternehmungen erwies sich die Wetter-App auf dem Smartphone. Auf diese Weise gelang es uns fast immer, dem Regen auszuweichen und unser Ziel bei bestmöglichen Wetterbedingungen zu erreichen.
Abgesehen von einigen Rundtouren, Schlösserbesichtigungen und Stadtspaziergängen gab es ein paar kleine, aber feine Wanderausflüge, über die ich in den nächsten Tagen berichten möchte.

For me it’s the new big Scottish Clans Mug filled with hot Galaxy chocolate and a couple of Bourbon Creams to munch on that help me reminisce about the Scotland vacation that we had enjoyed not too long ago.
After our return to Germany we do miss the crackling fire in the fireplace at the end of an adventurous day in the Highlands. When the rough wind having blown in your face during the day’s hike is replaced by the smell of dinner cooking on the fabulous Aga oven heralding a cozy evening over a good book or with some great games among friends, you know this is where you want to be!
We experienced some spectacular parts of Scotland, took quite a number of pictures, and yet there’s still so much more to see. The smartphone’s weather app proved invaluable in deciding what to do and where to go on any given day. This way we mostly avoided the rain and enjoyed our tours around the countryside, the castles and towns under the best weather – and light – conditions possible.
In addition to two round trips by car with various photo stops we visited some castles and enjoyed a few walks around towns such as Fort Augustus, Oban and Edinburgh. But the highlights of our Highland adventures were a couple of wonderful hiking tours that bestowed on us jaw-dropping views and amazing experiences.
